Rainbow

Easiest cake ever. Felt my skills were underutilized but it's what the 4 year-old ordered. :)
Skittles and  marshmallows on a blue sky background. Did I mention easiest cake ever?

Book Cake

Nothing overly fancy. Obviously the book pages can look/say anything you want. (I suggest making a cuter bookmark than mine came out like :)

Book edge done with basket weave tip to look like pages. And don't forget a flat border to look like the book cover.

Rice Krispy Dragon

My husband and I formed this dragon for our "How to Train Your Dragon" fanatic. Made two batches of rice krispy treats. Added green food coloring to the marshmallows, before adding the krispies. The first batch, pressed into a circle pan. When firm, cut in half and stand. Second batch, formed legs, head and tail. (Grease hands well!) Added large marshmallows with chocolate chip for eyes. Oranges cut in half for toes. Gum drop nose. Tongue cut out of fruit roll-up. Wings cut out of fruit roll-ups, rolled onto skewers. (Don't add until ready to serve. They start to droop.) Spine can be any pointed candy. I think ours were jets.

Caveman Troll Cake

Comedy-Tragedy Birthday Cake

My friend, Tia, wanted to surprise her mother with a special 50th birthday cake. Tia drew up the design and helped me make this cake. Very pleased with how it turned out.

Heart Attack Birthday Cake

My sister told me that her daughter wanted me to make her birthday cake. She requested a chocolate flavored heart cake with little hearts on it. After she looked at her cake she said that it wasn't quite what she was thinking of but it was better. Well ok then :)

Something to mention about the cake was the filling. Super easy filling that Kami introduced me to. Mix a can of chocolate frosting and marshmallow creme. Very tasty.

Margarita/Girl's Night Out Cake

For my friend, Autumn's 30th birthday, I made a coconut cake with a lime filling. Covered it with fondant. I just placed a margarita glass with a salted rim and lime. Plus a couple of umbrellas. Very simple and cute :)

Grandfather Clock for Pink Tea (Drive for the Cure)

Pink Tea is an annual event held by Drive for the Cure, a foundation that help fund women to get mammograms. I first learned about this event a few years ago while my mother was in the midst of battling breast cancer. I haven't been up to going until this year when I offered to help decorate one of the tables along with some of my coworkers. The theme for our table was "A Moment in Time". My coworkers made beaded watches for the women at the table and I volunteered to make the center piece which would be raffled off.
I asked my friend, Kami, to help with this because I knew she would be excited about another cake project. So with her help we created this grandfather clock. We were very pleased with the results and received many compliments at the tea party. It was an elderly couple that won the cake and they were excited to be able to share it with their support group (the lady was currently undergoing breast cancer treatment).

These are amazing. These are the competitors from this year.

Gross Skull Cake

My nephew loves everything video games and just gross, weird things. So I thought I would try the gross, weird cake. He loved it. Skull: complete with empty, black eye sockets and white candy melt teeth. But don't forget the giant knife in it's head with blood oozing. Yes, I realize that a skeleton wouldn't bleed but nothing else wouldn't be gross enough :)

Dog Agility Cakes

These cakes were made by my friend, Wendee. With her dog, Benjamin, she is very active with a group people that do agility training. She wanted to make something special for the birthday of a lady in the group. She designed the cakes and set up the course. I helped her by making the large dog heads. They are made with Royal icing, marshmallow snouts and candies for the eyes, nose and tongue.
