Kit Kat Piano

Couldn't be any easier.
9 x 13 and an 8 inch stacked and cut to shape. White Kit-Kats and the regular brown cut in half.
My favorite part was the extra touch of sheet music under wax paper.

Babymouse Birthday!

Babymouse.
Only the best graphic novel series ever.
Really.
Just ask my 7 year old.

Super Why's Woofster

I tried this method again.
And again, didn't like how it turned at all. Mine completely ripped apart.
Then I realized the frosting doesn't freeze well that because I make it dairy-free.
If you didn't have to do that, I think the method would work great.
I just did my best to patch it up and our 4 year old didn't mind one bit :D

Peg + Cat

I was only going to have 10 minutes on the birthday to do this cake so wanted one with only a couple colors and thought I'd try a new technique to speed up my last minute work. I tried this method
and didn't like how it turned at all (so redid the frosting on top. So much for saving time. Luckily this was a super easy design.) I do like the idea so may try it again another time.

THE Pizza

After your brain gets passed the "pizza-ness" of this cake, it was pretty good.
My kids were the main decoraters on this one. "Cheese" has never been so fun to make.
Used cut out fruit roll-up for pepperoni, chocolate covered raisins for sausage (although I think Milk Duds would of been better), sprinkles for green onions, and some Cake Mate Gel was used to make the olives. Oh and just a side note, just buy Better Crocker Cupcake Icing for the "sauce." Dying red frosting is such a pain.
Serve on a pizza tray or out of a pizza box for an added touch.

Plants vs. Zombies

Apparently, the Winter Melon has the coolest weapons
and the Gargantuar and his Imp are super awesome.
So here was our attempt....
Zombie made out of gray craft foam (markers & goggly eyes!) and placed standing. It was my first time using the "grass" tip. So forgiving. Love it!
Traditional butter cream frosting can be made with non-dairy milk of your choice and Blue Bonnet Light, which is dairy-free. Just note that it had a much higher water content and so plan on adding less "milk" and more powdered sugar.
And in case you want the Wheat-free, Gluten-free cake recipe, buy this book. It's our favorite.
No really. Buy it. You won't regret it!

Barbie

The traditional 80's Barbie cake. (She LOVED it!)
P.S. Used box cake mix without milk (Western Family) and just added a can of Sprite.
Makes a more dense, egg-free, milk-free cake.
And as always, traditional butter cream frosting can be made with non-dairy milk of your choice and Blue Bonnet Light, which is dairy-free. Just note that it had a much higher water content and so plan on adding less "milk" and more powdered sugar.

Cars take 2

I've done this one before, but Lightning McQueen is always a winner with the 2-year olds.
(Looks good even if I did forget the spoiler.)

Semi Truck

Used two loaf pans to bake the cake in. Cut one of them in half and shaped it a little to look like the actually truck. Mini doughnut halves were used as tires. Toothpicks were used to hold the top tires on, crossing each other as they were stuck through. The speed limit sign, or age limit, was made from the other half of the loaf.

Ninjas

These are suppose to be Ninja Legos (I suppose the white should have been yellow.)
So fast.
Frost, add ninja mask with flat tip.
 Eyes and eyebrows.
Done.

Rainbow

Easiest cake ever. Felt my skills were underutilized but it's what the 4 year-old ordered. :)
Skittles and  marshmallows on a blue sky background. Did I mention easiest cake ever?

Sour Patch Kids

Made for my husband's 27th birthday. The end of the box was made from chocolate. I used toothpicks to hold it up. I had to stick them into some sour patch kids to keep them from moving around. I outlined the letters beforehand.

Pac-Man

This cake originally was going to be a Muppet cake. I didn't have any decorating bags, so I used a Ziploc. That is until it exploded. So, now to do a cake with a black background. Pac-man it was. Bubble gum is around the cake. The bright colors made it awesome.

Mario Bros.

Brother's 22nd birthday cake. I love my uber-nerdy family. :)

Manly Dinner

Made for my husband's 26th birthday. The steak didn't work out the way I wanted it to. If I do a steak again, I'll do a T-bone instead. The peas look like they took tons of work, but it was actually was the easiest for me. The butter was sculpted white chocolate (dyed yellow). The mashed potatoes used a LOT of frosting to get the right texture. Black sugar sprinkles for pepper. Carmel sauce as gravy.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Made for brother's 27th birthday. My brothers and I can quote this movie almost word for word. It seemed fitting. :) I hat making black frosting. To get the right color I always feel like I have to use tons of the dye. Made a quick outline with a toothpick just so I could have a guesstimate.

Plants v. Zombies

This lovely cake I made for my brother's 21st birthday. The zombie was grey foam, the stuff you get in craft stores. Just cut it from a outline of a zombie I found online.

Book Cake

Nothing overly fancy. Obviously the book pages can look/say anything you want. (I suggest making a cuter bookmark than mine came out like :)

Book edge done with basket weave tip to look like pages. And don't forget a flat border to look like the book cover.
